Just over four years after the first baby was delivered at The Women's Hospital, Deaconess Health System and its physician partners dedicated the hospital's first expansion Sunday. They said the expansion was needed because the hospital often operated at maximum capacity.

On May 19 when Ivey Thomas arrived at The Women's Hospital just before 11 p.m., her water had already broken and her baby boy was set to be born - a month early. But at the check-in desk, she was told eight other laboring mothers had also arrived in the past 40 minutes.
