Thongchai Jaidee birdied the third hole of a playoff Sunday to win Ballantine's Championship in South Korea, his fourth European Tour title. Jaidee, of Thailand, rolled in a 5-foot putt to defeat Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano and Sung-Hoon Kang.
Robert-Jan Derksen bogeyed the final four holes Saturday but leads the Ballantine's Championship at Jeju Island, South Korea, by two strokes over Pablo Martin. The start of the round was delayed by more than three hours because of a dense fog. The 35-year-old Dutchman had a similar lead through 36 holes, but Saturday, he shot 3-over 75 in nearly impossible windy conditions at Pinx Golf Club. His three-round total is 6-under 210. I think (the course) was too tough, Derksen said.
Robert-Jan Derksen carded a 3-under-par 69 and took a two-shot lead Friday at the halfway mark of Ballantine's Championship in South Korea. Derksen was at 9-under 135 at the Pinx Golf Club on Jeju Island, where rainy, windy conditions increased the difficulty of the course. Wook-Soon Kang (69) and Thongchai Jaidee (71) shared second place at 137 in the European Tour-sanctioned event. It was a difficult day, Derksen said.
Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano and Mark Brown shot 7-under-par 65s to share the first-round lead Thursday at the Ballantine's Championship in South Korea. The European Tour's tournament is being played at Jeju Island's 7,345-yard Pinx Golf Club. Fernandez-Castano, a native of Madrid, and Brown, from Auckland, New Zealand, continued their strong play after finishing second and third in the China Open in Beijing. Brown's first 18 holes featured an eagle at the par-5 10th, six birdies and a bogey at the par-3 14th. I just played nice and steady, Brown said.
Thailand's Thongchai Jaidee shot a closing 3-under-par 69 Sunday to win the European Tour's Indonesia Open by two strokes over three players. Jaidee, a one-stroke leader after Saturday's third round, pushed his lead to four strokes with a birdie at the par-four seventh hole Sunday, and despite two late bogeys, closed out his third tournament win on the European Tour. My driving, putting and iron game were all good today, Jaidee, ranked No.
