*nicosia Greek and Turkish Cypriot negotiators have met for the first time in four years to lay the groundwork for reunification talks expected to start in June. Working groups of lawyers, economists and academics will look at issues such as power-sharing and linking the island's two economies.

Text of report in English by Turkish news agency Anatolia Istanbul, 3 April: President Mehmet Ali Talat of the [self- declared] Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) said [on] Thursday [3 April] the conditions are "quite appropriate" for solution of Cyprus question and TRNC will fulfil its responsibilities.

A politically significant crossing in Nicosia opened Thursday allowing Greek and Turkish Cypriots to travel in the world's only divided capital.
