News - Urban Meyer
Quarterback Tim Tebow of No. 1 Florida has not been cleared to play at No. 4 LSU Saturday and did not practice Monday, Coach Urban Meyer said Monday. Meyer said Tebow, who suffered a concussion Sept. 26 against Kentucky, looks better and is continuing to work with the team's doctors.
Florida quarterback Tim Tebow was released from the hospital Sunday following a brief stay for precautionary reasons. The 2007 Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback suffered a concussion Saturday in a 41-7 rout by the top-ranked Gators over Kentucky. He was sacked by defensive end Taylor Wyndham on 3rd-and-8 from the Kentucky 11-yard line late in the third quarter, and his head struck the knee of teammate Marcus Gilbert. Wyndham lowered his head into Tebow's chest. Later, he was carted off the field and was driven by ambulance to the Kentucky Chandler Medical Center before the contest ended. Tim is doing fine this morning, Coach Urban Meyer said in a statement.

Urban Meyer's status as an elite college coach was further cemented Monday with a contract extension from the Florida Gators worth a reported $24 million. The Orlando Sentinel reported the contract six-year extension is among the richest for Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and makes Meyer, 45, the highest paid coach in the Southeastern Conference. My family and I are dedicated to Florida and are excited to be a Gator for another six years, Meyer said in a tweet on his Twitter page He guided Florida to its second national championship in three seasons last year with a 24-14 win over Oklahoma in the BCS title game.
Tim Tebow took a few deep breaths, steadied himself, then plowed through his Heisman Trophy acceptance speech much the same way he takes on tacklers - fast and furious.
