Utah ranked third overall among states in a CNBC list of "America's Top States for Business." The list, announced this week, was based on publicly available data on 40 different measures of competitiveness. Utah was behind top-ranked Texas and No. 2 Virginia.

The Utah Senate on Wednesday confirmed Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr.'s appointments of the Rev. France Davis and Basim Motiwala as members of the Utah Board of Regents. Davis leads the Calvary Baptist Church in Salt Lake City. He replaces Sara Sinclair on the board.
