A researcher at the University of Barcelona has examined the construction of surface transportation infrastructure in Spain from 1720 to 2010.

A research study, in which Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) is taking part, has concluded that traditionally irrigated Mediterranean landscape has suffered an important loss of the cultural and ecological patrimony that it holds, especially as a result of the modernization of the traditional watering networks established throughout this countryside.
