News - Vladimir Guerrero
The Los Angeles Angels have shelved veterans Torii Hunter and Vladimir Guerrero due to injuries. The stars were placed on the 15-day disabled list with the Angels trailing the Texas Rangers by 1/2-game in the American League West. Guerrero suffered a strained muscle behind his left knee and a lower hamstring strain in Tuesday's 8-5 loss to the Rangers. He was playing right field for just the second time this season, after missing 38 games with a torn right pectoral muscle. Guerrero's primary function has been designated hitter. Hunter has a strained right side and will miss next Tuesday's All-Star Game in St.
Vladimir Guerrero hit a three-run homer in a six-run eighth inning Saturday, leading the Los Angeles Angels to an 11-4 win over the Baltimore Orioles. Guerrero had two hits and four RBI.
Vladimir Guerrero and Bobby Abreu drove in three runs each Wednesday and the Los Angeles Angels scored the game's first nine runs in mauling Colorado 11-3. The Rockies lost their second straight after having won 17 out of 18. Guerrero singled in a run in the first and then scored on a single by Kendry Morales.
Jered Weaver was the winning pitcher and LA had four players with RBIs Tuesday in the Angels' 4-3 victory over Tampa Bay. Weaver (6-2) gave up five hits and two runs with four walks in six innings. Brian Fuentes pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his 16th save this season.
A torn pectoral muscle on the right side of his chest wall will sideline LA Angels right fielder Vladimir Guerrero for four weeks, the team said Friday. Guerrero, 34, underwent right knee surgery in October and was brought along slowly at spring training. The team said on its Web site before Friday's contest at Minnesota that Guerrero has struggled since making a throw from right field in an April 2 exhibition game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Obviously, short of needing surgery, this is a big blow, said Angels' Manager Mike Scioscia.
