Coromandel Iwi are to receive part of a $97 million Government payment to settle aquaculture space allocation reached in 2004. The Crown had until 2014 to provide the iwi with the equivalent of 20 per cent of aquaculture space created between 1992 and 2004, or the financial equivalent.

Environment Waikato has awarded $19,500 to the Moehau Environment Group (MEG) to help with the conservation of a nationally important Coromandel wetland area. MEG is an organisation working to protect the northern Coromandel Peninsula's natural environment.
