News - Wellington City
I congratulate Wellington City Council for mothballing plans to invest in a fibre optic network. It's great news for ratepayers. Wellington is already well-served for broadband and extending the service continues without putting more burden on long-suffering ratepayers.
The extensions to Wellington's Kilbirnie Pool (Feb 22) will doubtless be appreciated by residents for many years to come.
I was sad to read that the Corrections Department intends to upgrade Mt Crawford Prison. I understand that it was originally on Wellington's Terrace so it's been shifted before. The Government and department should act now and relocate it.
By BURGESS, Dave Dave Burgess reports on the capital's new council - and who gets what. -------------------- THE dust has settled after the scramble for responsibilities by Wellington city councillors.
William Young (Letters, Sept 25) implies that Wellington's marine education centre would be the answer to Wellington's growth. As one who has maintained an open mind as to its siting, I have strongly opposed the funding of it by Wellington City Council.
