By Chester Allen, The Olympian, Olympia, Wash. Aug. 22--OLYMPIA -- Too many hatchery salmon are spawning with wild salmon in the state's rivers, U.S. Rep. Norm Dicks said Tuesday, and their offspring are less likely to survive in the wild and return to the river as adults.

Time will tell if a revamped state Fish and Wildlife Commission is the victory some recreational sportsmen think it is. Gov. Christine Gregoire early last week shuffled the nine-member commission, appointing four new members.
Recreational crab rules, wolf management and hunter education programs and will be among the topics discussed at the March meeting of the state Fish and Wildlife Commission. The commission will meet March 4-5 in Room 172 of the Natural Resources Building, 1111 Washington St. S.E., Olympia.
