Roger Levesque's goal in the 36th minute Saturday gave Seattle a 1-0 Major League Soccer win at Columbus. Levesque scored his first goal (unassisted) when Crew goalkeeper Will Hesmer failed to clear his initial miss. Jhon Kennedy Hurtado also took shots on goal, while goalkeeper Kasey Keller made two saves for the Sounders (10-7-11), who continue a battle for a playoff berth in their inaugural MLS season. Their three points put them into a tie with Chivas USA for third in the Western Conference. Chivas won 2-0 at D.C.
Goals by Chad Marshall and Eddie Gavin allowed Columbus to run its home unbeaten streak to 20 games Saturday with a 2-0 decision over Dallas. The Crew increased their lead atop the Eastern Conference to seven points over idle Chicago. Marshall scored on a header off a corner kick in the 10th minute,
Jason Carey scored twice Saturday to lead the Columbus Crew to a 3-1 Major League Soccer win over Real Salt Lake. The Crew equaled an MLS record by winning their 17th straight home game. Steven Lenhart scored in the 23rd minute and added an assist on Carey's second goal, while goalkeeper William Hesmer made four saves for the Crew (6-3-9), whose last home loss was 2-0 to San Jose June 7, 2008. RSL's lone goal came when Raphael Cox scored his first career goal in the 76th minute.
Jon Busch had his fourth shutout Saturday to help the Chicago Fire gain first place in the MSL Eastern Conference with a 0-0 draw against Columbus. Chicago (6-3-7) is winless in its last six home matches -- four draws and two losses -- but still holds a one-point edge over D.C.
