By THOMAS CONTENT Xcel Energy Inc. will announce today that its power plant in northern Wisconsin will be the largest in the Midwest to make electricity by burning wood chips.

The Board of Directors of Xcel Energy (NYSE:XEL) today declared a quarterly dividend on its common stock of 23.75 cents per share. The dividends are payable October 20, 2008, to shareholders of record on September 25, 2008.

The Xcel Energy Inc. (NYSE: XEL) board of directors today raised the quarterly dividend on the company's common stock from 23 cents per share to 23.75 cents per share, which is equivalent to an annual rate of 95 cents per share.

Xcel Energy Inc. (NYSE: XEL) today reported first quarter 2008 GAAP earnings of $153 million, or $0.35 per diluted share, compared with $120 million, or $0.28 per diluted share, in 2007.
