DARE COUNTY | Dare County will unveil and demonstrate its new glass crusher at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Public Works Facility at 1018 Driftwood Drive in Manteo. The glass crusher eliminates the costs of transporting bottles to re cycling companies and will save the county about $30,000 a year. The crushed glass will be available free to Dare County residents to use for paths and gardens. The public is invited to attend the event and a luncheon, followed by a tour of the facility....

CURRITUCK COUNTY | Mackay Island National Wildlife Refuge will hold Open Road Days from 7 a.m. to sunset Saturday and Sunday, allowing the public to drive roads normally closed to vehicular traffic around impoundments at the end of Mackay Island Road. Other activities may include hiking, bicycling, fishing, wildlife observation and photography.
