Canadian John Kucera edged Didier Cuche of Swizterland by 0.04 seconds Saturday to win the men's downhill at the World Championships in France. Kucera, 24, made a nearly flawless 2:07.01 run down the icy course at Val d'Isere to become the first Canadian to ever win a world title in the men's downhill.

Officials in Garmisch, Germany, called off Saturday's World Cup ski races due to heavy fog and rescheduled them for Sunday. The visibility on the course was too obscured and led to the postponement of the women's super G until Sunday and the outright cancellation of the men's downhill in the final event before next week's world championships in France. American Marco Sullivan said fog had been an issue during this week's training runs; however, the mist had been clearing up by afternoon.
