Nigerian airline Arik Air has signed a firm contract for the purchase of three Airbus A340-500s. The company said that the acquisition of the new A340s is an important step in the airline's growth strategy to develop Lagos and Abuja as hubs. Nigerian airline Arik Air has placed an additional order for seven next-generation 737s from Boeing. The airline had initially ordered 10 next-generation 737s in September 2007 and now has a total of 17 next-generation 737s on order. Arik Air currently operates six 737-700s.
