redOrbit Staff & Wire Reports - Your Universe Online It has been called the most ambitious neuroscience project ever attempted, but a proposed 10-year, $1.6 billion initiative designed to develop technology capable of simulating a person’s brain is now facing a possible boycott from scientists over concerns the project is too expensive and has too narrow a focus. When it was originally announced in October 2013, the Human Brain Project was described as an attempt to create a new...

Scientists are attempting to engineer a human-like brain with the help of powerful supercomputers. It's called the Blue Brain project, led by computer genius Henry Markram, who is also the director of the Center for Neuroscience & Technology and the Brain Mind Institute. Markram has worked on the project for the past five years. Last month he claimed at a conference in Oxford, that he plans to build an electronic human brain 'within ten years'. Many questions surround this...

A leading scientist has claimed that a detailed, functional artificial human brain could be built within the next 10 years, BBC News reported. Henry Markram, director of the Blue Brain Project, has already simulated elements of a rat brain. A synthetic human brain would be of particular use finding treatments for mental illnesses, Markram told the TED Global conference in Oxford. He said some two billion people are thought to suffer some kind of brain impairment and that it is not impossible...

A replication of a small portion of the brain has been developed, based on careful construction of each molecule, and has successfully restored experimental results from actual brains, BBC News reported. By placing the so-called "Blue Brain" in a virtual body, signs of molecular and neural origins of thought and memory can be observed. The director leading the study stated that scaling the recreation of the human brain is simply a matter of money.  "It's not a question of years, it's...
