By Scott D. Pierce Deseret News BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. -- If I were a betting man, I would have lost money when the folks from CBS News appeared (via satellite) in front of members of the Television Critics Association. I guessed that it would be the third question before Katie Couric's job security came up. My TV critic pals guessed somewhere between second and sixth. We were all wrong. The first question out of a critic's mouth essentially boiled down to, "So, Katie, are you about to...

By Alan Pergament If you put 200 of the nation's television critics in the same room with media executives and stars, you're bound to have some issues raised. And there was the usual share during the Television Critics Association tour that ended Tuesday. Here is your local critic's list of the Top 10 issues -- some heavy, some light and some unintentionally funny -- from the tour, along with some answers or opinions. Call it a new version of the old ABC program, "Issues and Answers."...

Who's in and who's out at CBS? Executives of the Tiffany Network aimed to set the record straight on that question at the annual gathering of television critics in Los Angeles on July 18. Katie Couric, the much hyped -- and more recently, much maligned -- anchor of the network's evening news broadcast isn't leaving any time soon, despite rumors to the contrary. But CBS (CBS) made it official that another of its leading lights, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation star William Petersen, will be...

CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric says she doesn't intend to part ways with the U.S. network despite reports of her ratings struggles. Couric said while CBS' evening broadcast has fallen behind its counterparts at NBC and ABC, she does not plan on leaving the media group in the near future, the New York Daily News reported Saturday. I have no plans to leave any time soon. I'm very committed to the people here and the product, Couric said Friday. CBS News President Sean McManus echoed...

By Tom Maurstad, The Dallas Morning News Jul. 19--BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. -- In a case where quantity trumps quality, CBS has, at least in one way, already won the fall season race before it has even started by managing to muster one. At a press tour where the standard post-strike approach taken by most of its competitors has been to introduce a couple of new shows and talk about what an exciting opportunity it is to reintroduce last fall's shows again, CBS is debuting four shows -- two...

Coverage of the war in Iraq has been curtailed in 2008 on the three U.S. television networks' evening newscast, a TV consultant reports. With nearly half of 2008 gone, the three newscasts have shown 181 weekday minutes of Iraq coverage, compared with 1,157 minutes for all of 2007, The New York Times reported. Information compiled by television consultant Andrew Tyndall indicates CBS Evening News had the fewest minutes devoted to Iraq -- 51 -- compared with 55 minutes on ABC's World News...

By MATEA GOLD By Matea Gold Los Angeles Times NEW YORk Every weekday evening, Katie Couric is the picture of sobriety on the "CBS Evening News." Viewers who miss the impish humor the anchor exhibited on "Today" probably don't know that it's still possible to catch glimpses of Couric, unplugged - and in a medium that's light-years away from the staid environs of broadcast news. Since February, Couric quietly has been uploading videos to her own channel on YouTube. The clips - 33 so...

By Katharine Q. Seelye and Julie Bosman Angered by what they consider sexist news coverage of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton's bid for the Democratic presidential nomination, many women and erstwhile Clinton supporters are proposing boycotts of the cable television networks, putting up videos on a "Media Hall of Shame," starting a national conversation about sexism and urging Clinton's rival, Senator Barack Obama, to address the matter. But many in the news media - with a few exceptions,...

By Michelle Nichols NEW YORK (Reuters) - Television sweetheart Katie Couric debuted on Tuesday as "CBS Evening News" anchor and the first woman to solo host a newscast on one of the country's three major broadcast networks.
