Notre Dame Coach Charlie Weiss says his team did a heck of a job ignoring Honolulu's tropical distractions to rip Hawaii 49-21 in Christmas Eve's Hawaii Bowl. Michael Haywood, Notre Dame's offensive coordinator, was named Tuesday as the new head football coach at Miami-Ohio. Haywood, 44, succeeds Shane Montgomery, who resigned Nov. 29 after the RedHawks posted a 2-10 record this season. Notre Dame officials said Wednesday that Fighting Irish Coach Charlie Weis would return for a fifth season to lead the school's football team. Notre Dame is 28-21 in four seasons under Weis, including 3-9 in 2007 and 6-6 in 2008. This season ended with a home loss to Syracuse and a rout by Southern Cal.
