By Amanda Lee Myers PHOENIX - Days of heavy rains around the Grand Canyon caused an earthen dam to fail Sunday and created flooding that forced helicopters to pluck hundreds of residents and campers from the gorge. No injuries were reported Sunday.
Officials are lifting some fire restrictions in southern Utah and northern Arizona after monsoon rainfall has reduced the threat of wildfires. As of Friday, visitors will be allowed to build campfires and use charcoal grills in the Color Country area.
