WASHINGTON, July 25, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- NASA is taking steps to protect its Mars orbiters, while preserving opportunities to gather valuable scientific data, as Comet C/2013 A1
As the European Space Agency’s Rosetta probe drew closer to its target – comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko – the probe was able to pick up data that showed the comet is releasing the equivalent of two small glasses of water into space every second, the space agency said.
The European Space Agency's (ESA) Rosetta spacecraft is the first mission in history to attempt to rendezvous with a comet. The spacecraft will deploy the Philae lander to the surface of the comet and accompany it as it orbits the Sun.
Later this year, comet Siding Spring will have a very close brush with Mars. That brush will be so close, in fact, that it lead scientists to worry about the safety of the three spacecraft currently orbiting the planet.
Three NASA science instruments aboard the European Space Agency's Rosetta spacecraft, which is set to become the first to orbit a comet and land a probe on its nucleus, are beginning observations and sending science data back to Earth.
The comet targeted for research by the European Space Agency’s Rosetta probe has begun to develop its tail as it zooms closer and closer to the Sun. The probe is maneuvering to align with the comet’s orbit this month and is slated to rendezvous with it in August.
A functional brain imaging technique known as positron emission tomography (PET) is a promising tool for determining which severely brain damaged individuals in vegetative states have the potential to recover consciousness.
NASA released on Thursday an image of a comet that, on Oct. 19, will pass within 84,000 miles of Mars - less than half the distance between Earth and our moon.
WASHINGTON, March 27, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- NASA released Thursday an image of a comet that, on Oct.
Comet -- A comet is a small body from the outer reaches of the solar system similar to an asteroid but composed of ice. Often described as "dirty snowballs," they are composed largely of carbon dioxide ice, methane ice, and water ice with a mixture of dust and small stony aggregates mixed in. Comets are thought to be small pieces of debris left over from the formation of the solar system, representing a sample of the original composition of the nebula that condensed to form the Sun and all...
