With the autumn season upon us and winter quickly approaching, colder days and higher heating costs are on the horizon. Con Edison (NYSE: ED) today urged customers to take several steps to insulate their homes and conserve energy so they can stay warm and help lower heating bills.
Con Edison set a record yesterday for September peak electricity demand, reaching a high of 11,389 megawatts at 5 p.m., surpassing the previous record of 11,149 megawatts set at 5 p.m. on September 15, 2005.
Con Edison (NYSE: ED) said today that July set a record for monthly electricity sendout of 6,702,321 megawatt hours, surpassing the previous mark of 6,649,832 used during August 2005. Sendout is the cumulative amount of energy distributed over the company's power grid.
Con Edison customers nearly set a record for weekend electric use. The company delivered 458,081 megawatt hours of electricity in New York City and Westchester County on July 19 and 20, 2008, catapulting the past weekend into the second highest spot in the record books.
