DARE COUNTY | Dare County will unveil and demonstrate its new glass crusher at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Public Works Facility at 1018 Driftwood Drive in Manteo. The glass crusher eliminates the costs of transporting bottles to re cycling companies and will save the county about $30,000 a year.
The 12th annual Remembrance Celebration of the Freedman's Colony of Roanoke Island takes place Friday, Sept. 26. "First Light of Freedom," as the free event is called, starts at 4 p.m. at the Fort Raleigh National Historic Site on U.S. 64 north of Manteo.
DARE COUNTY | Tanger Outlet Centers will be selling a special Pink Card beginning Wednesday that will give customers a 25 percent discount at participating Tanger stores . The Pink Cards will be available through Oct. 19 for a $1 donation at the Tanger Customer Service Center .

KILL DEVIL HILLS | The Kill Devil Hills Board of Commissioners is seeking comments from residents and property owners on a proposal to reduce residential solid waste collection to once a week beginning in November and continuing through March. Collections would then resume to twice weekly.
