Canada's unemployment rate was unchanged at 8 percent in April, although employment grew by 36,000 jobs, Statistics Canada reported Friday. The agency attributed the increase to more workers becoming self-employed and, despite the gain, overall employment has fallen by 321,000 since a peak in October 2008. All the employment growth in April occurred in Quebec, which gained 22,000 new jobs and British Columbia, which posted 17,000 jobs.
