A new study, published Thursday in Analytical Chemistry, states that the eye make-up worn by Cleopatra and other ancient Egyptians apparently had a dual purpose, shielding the wearer from the "evil eye" and protecting them from eye disease. Researchers have reported the discovery of a rare mummified child buried along with a green amulet stone, providing further evidence that the ancient Egyptians believed the stone and the stone's color itself wielded magical powers.
