The Chinese Railways Ministry signed a deal Monday to buy 100 high-speed trains for $5.74 billion. The trains, capable of speeds up to 220 mph, will be built by CNR Corp., a state-owned vehicle manufacturer, China's state-run Xinhua news agency reported. The 100 sets of high-speed trains are to begin traveling between Beijing and Shanghai in 2011, when construction of a new railway is expected to be completed.
