ON a technical level The Strangers is a well-crafted killer- chiller with first-time writer and director Bryan Bertino building layers of creepy and super-suspenseful atmosphere. Less is more and what you hear going bump (or knock) in the night mixed with a creepy score is used with great effect to heighten tension. That said, the story will leave you stone cold, as will the film's ending. Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman play Kirsten and James, an attractive couple on the verge of breaking...

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- Doctors were unable to reattach an 11-year- old Louisiana boy's arm that was retrieved from the belly of the alligator, family friend Cory Dunn said Thursday. By Steve Gehrke, The Salt Lake Tribune Jul. 28--Locals had delighted in tall tales about the Virgin River alligator for years, but earlier this month, wildlife crews finally bagged the notorious monster, in a nearby pond. The Division of Wildlife Resources caught a 3-foot-long American gator on July 1, after a family of fishers reported the unusual spectacle. "The kids saw it, and it took them a while to convince their parents," said Pam Wheeler, who had never handled a 'gator but...

By Susan Dunne, The Hartford Courant, Conn. Jul. 25--"Mother of Tears" is a delicious chunk of cheese, a stylish and entertaining crock of old-style horror-genre schlock. Seeing such a relic in the era of torture porn is almost quaint, even as ceremonial daggers are cutting into orifices and entrails are sliding around the floor. Italian auteur Dario Argento's final installment in his "Three Mothers" trilogy, which began with "Suspiria" and "Inferno," goes for camp this time around. The...

Maybe the most amazing thing about "Spaced," the cult-favorite British comedy that finally arrives on DVD in this country Tuesday, is simply that it was allowed to be the show its creators really wanted it to be. To watch the show as an American viewer is to marvel at the appealing looseness, the frequent cutaways and pop-culture in jokes, even the fact that its characters look like regular people. Created by Jessica Stevenson (who now goes by her married name, Jessica Hynes) and Simon...

MOVIE hellraiser Colin Farrell looks lean and mean as he runs up a Malibu beach. The Irishman showed off his superfit body as he came out of the water after a swim yesterday. The heart-throb has obviously been keeping off the spare ribs. (c) 2008 Daily Record; Glasgow (UK). Provided by ProQuest Information and Learning. All rights Reserved.
