FREDONIA, Kan., May 19, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- When Kerry Holyoak moved from the exotic island of Saipan to Fredonia, Kan. in 2006, she left behind 20 years of Tahitian and hula dancing, specifically with the Te Kana Hau Nui Dancers of Saipan.
The Hula painted frog was considered extinct by the IUCN since 1996. Very little is known about the species because very few specimens have been found. In 1940 two adults and two tadpoles were collected but the smaller one was eaten by the larger one, and the tadpoles were lost. A single Hula painted frog was found in 1955 which was the last record of this specimen. The extinction of this species is said to be the result of the draining of lake Hula and its marshes in the 1950’s. Only...
The Hula Painted Frog (Latonia nigriventer) is an amphibian and the only living member of the genus Latonia. It was believed to be extinct as a result of habitat destruction during the 1950s until the species was rediscovered in 2011. It is native to the Lake Hula marshes in Israel. The draining of Lake Hula and its marshes in the 1950s was thought to have caused the extinction of this species, along with the cyprinid fish Acanthobrama hulensis and cichlid fish Tristramella intermedia....
