Brian Daboll, former quarterbacks coach of the New York Jets, was hired Wednesday as offensive coordinator of the Cleveland Browns. The Browns also hired Rob Ryan as defensive coordinator and Brad Seely as assistant head coach-special teams coordinator. All three men rejoin Eric Mangini, who took the Browns' head-coaching job recently after he was fired by the Jets. The 33-year-old Daboll, who has had NFL coaching jobs for nine seasons, coached the Jets quarterbacks under Mangini in New York.
Recently fired New York Jets Coach Eric Mangini will be the new head coach of the Cleveland Browns, the team announced Wednesday. The Browns issued a statement that said an agreement has been reached for Mangini to coach the team. Terms of the deal were not announced. The Jets fired Mangini last week after his team finished the season with a 9-7 record, missing the playoffs.
The New York Jets fired Coach Eric Mangini Monday after he failed to take the team into the playoffs despite a strong season start. The Jets (9-7) lost four of their final five games, after starting out 8-3. New York fans had high hopes when Brett Favre arrived with the Jets, particularly after a 34-13 victory at previously unbeaten Tennessee. However, the team's five-game winning streak was followed by the late- season slide that cost Mangini his job.
