Television and film actress Pamela Anderson has agreed to make a cameo appearance in an upcoming episode of the U.S. comedy series "Kath & Kim," NBC said. The former "Baywatch" star will play herself in a scene with the show's celebrity-gossip-obsessed, mother-daughter duo played by Molly Shannon and Selma Blair. The series is an adaptation of the hit Australian show of the same name.

NBC says it has ordered an additional nine episodes of "Kath & Kim," giving the U.S. comedy series a full first season. Co-starring Selma Blair and Molly Shannon, the show is an adaptation of the Australian hit sit-com about a quirky mother-and-daughter duo. The full-season order announcement was made Monday by Ben Silverman, co-chairman of NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios. "'Kath & Kim' is a show we love and believe in," Teri Weinberg, executive vice president of...

By NEAL JUSTIN For nearly three decades, NBC's Thursday-night comedy block has lived up to its "must-see" billing. Half of the shows that have captured the Emmy for best comedy since 1983 have come from its ranks, including "Cheers,""The Cosby Show,""Friends,""Seinfeld" and, most recently, "30 Rock" and "The Office." But for all its efforts, the network has rarely been able to assemble four great programs at the same time, subjecting us die- hard regulars to mediocre fare that looks...

By DALE McGARRIGLE; OF THE NEWS STAFF Tonight is an evening of imports. First up is "Kath and Kim," inspired by an Australian sitcom of the same name, debuting at 8:30 p.m. on NBC. Well-paired with "My Name is Earl" at 8 p.m., "Kath and Kim" is another entertaining, white-trash buddy comedy. Kath Day (played by "SNL" alum Molly Shannon) is a fortysomething single mom who has finally found love, in the form of sandwich-shop owner Phil Knight (John Michael Higgins). But just as things...

By Scott D. Pierce Deseret News "KATH & KIM" is this season's most annoying new network TV show. It's populated by characters who are the equivalent of nails on a chalkboard. The kind of people you'd sprint away from if you encountered them in real life ... so why would you want to spend a half hour a week with them on TV? When you toss in the fact that this is supposed to be a comedy but it's painfully unfunny, this has all the makings of yet another NBC disaster. Based on an...

By David Kronke Clueless idiocy can be the stuff of inspired comedy - it's been done from the kids' show "SpongeBob SquarePants" to the not-for- kids show "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia." The trick is to make characters who are something less than human somehow likable, somehow relatable, or at least convey to viewers that there's a reason you're devoting such energy to telling these clowns' stories. NBC's new sitcom "Kath & Kim," based on a hit Australian sitcom, doesn't manage...

By Alan Pergament We could all use a good laugh considering the depressing state of the economy and the increasingly ugly state of the presidential race. Actually, the state of comedy is pretty depressing on network television these days, too. Fox's anemic new comedy, "Do Not Disturb," has already been canceled. And unfortunately, NBC's new Thursday night female bonding comedy, "Kath & Kim," and FX's new gross-out Thursday comedy, "Testees," are cartoonish series that are almost...

By Chuck Barney IF YOU THOUGHT all those gag-inducing ads for "Kath & Kim" that NBC ran during the Olympics were awful, wait until you check out the actual show. Better yet, don't bother. Starring Molly Shannon and Selma Blair, "Kath & Kim" follows the outrageous misadventures of a dim, dysfunctional mother-daughter duo. It is based on a comedy that originated in Australia and it might be just cause to immediately cease trade relations with that country. Shannon is Kath, a...

By BECKY KRYSTAL By Becky Krystal The Washington Post Kath (Molly Shannon) thinks she finally has it all - a boyfriend on the verge of proposing, a great physique and the freedom of an empty house after seeing her daughter, Kim, off to marriage. That is, until said offspring (Selma Blair) comes whining back home, pronouncing that her marriage is "o-v-u-r!" Let the battle begin on "Kath & Kim," the NBC comedy premiering at 8:30 p.m Thursday . Kim mopes and pouts while...

By Frazier Moore As you sample the new TV series arriving in the next week, you might find that no matter how widely they vary otherwise, they share a common link: All of them are playing with time. "Valentine," a romantic fantasy on CW, plucks Aphrodite, goddess of love, from ancient mythology and establishes her in the modern Hollywood Hills to help make love bloom between predestined partners. Assisting her (here known as Grace Valentine) are her son Danny (aka Eros), Leo (aka Hercules)...
