Visible LEDs Are 50 Years Old

The world's first visible light-emitting diode (LED) was demonstrated in 1962 by Nick Holonyak, Jr. to General Electric suits. Holonyak had predicted that the LED would replace incandescent lights, but at the time he probably didn't realize it would take 50 years to gain some traction....
