Text of report by Iranian conservative, privately-owned Fars News Agency website Tehran, 17 August: Government Spokesman Gholamhoseyn Elham said: The Iranian satellite-carrier rocket "Safir-e Omid" [Messenger of Hope] was launched in the presence of President Ahmadinezhad and in the name of the Lord of the Era [the twelfth Shi'i Imam].
Iran put a dummy satellite into orbit on an Iranian made rocket for the first time on Sunday. The launch is likely to increase Western unease over Iranâ€™s nuclear aspirations.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Friday he hoped to sign energy deals with Turkey opposed by the United States. "We have reached important agreements on natural gas and electricity issues," he said during a meeting in Istanbul.
