Histologically, it is defined by sheets of histiocytes (Hansemann cells) with accumulation of granular basophilic periodic acid-Schiff- positive, diastase- resistant inclusions and calcified Michaelis- Gutmann bodies, which are pathognomonic but not necessary for diagnosis.
