The Molluscum contagiosum virus, MCV, is a virus, in the poxvirus family, that causes the disease Molluscum contagiosum in humans. The virions have a complex structure that is consistent with the structure of the poxvirus family. Since the virus cannot routinely be cultured diagnosis is made on the clinical appearance.
