By Brian Stelter Television networks in the United States are assigning reporters to a new beat this election year: people who do not watch the evening news. With polls showing a rise in primary-season ballots cast by voters under 30, media outlets are out to convert the newly energized voters into viewers. On cable news, CNN promotes a "League of First Time Voters" and the Fox News Channel is covering what it calls the Y Factor with a full-time correspondent. On broadcast, NBC has...

Having worked for CBS Network News back in the "golden era" of TV news, I find this year's McCain-Obama campaign very disturbing. It is by far the least fair and balanced TV news coverage I've ever seen. The favoritism toward Barack Obama is primarily noticeable on most of the major cable TV news channels (especially MSNBC). The news programming producers load up their panelists with "supposed experts" who shamelessly favor Obama. Well, shame on them, because not being fair and balanced...

By Scott D. Pierce Deseret News BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. -- Fox News anchorman Chris Wallace went out of his way to criticize MSNBC -- and he made an excellent point. Of course, there was also a certain pot-calling-the-kettle-black quality to his criticism. Wallace slammed MSNBC and Keith Olbermann, saying the channel's campaign coverage was compromised by having Olbermann anchor primary election coverage despite hosting a show in which he expresses strong political opinions. Wallace...

The Barack Obama U.S. presidential campaign has bought a $5 million package of television spots for the Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, Advertising Age said. The package for the presumed Democratic nominee includes network TV as well as cable ads for the Games, which begin Aug. 8 and will be broadcast by NBC Universal.
