MARIPOSA, Calif. (AP) -- Firefighters are close to containing a 53-square-mile wildfire that has destroyed more than 20 homes in the mountains outside Yosemite National Park. Fire officials say the blaze was about 90 percent contained Saturday afternoon. All evacuation orders have been lifted.

SEATTLE (Reuters) - Washington state Gov. Christine Gregoire declared a wildfire emergency in the northwestern state on Friday and said the National Guard may have to be called up to help fight the blazes. "We face a siege of wildfire across our state," Gregoire said.
