John Buck tripled in Mark Teahen with the deciding run in the seventh inning Wednesday, giving the Kansas City Royals a 4-3 win over the New York Yankees. Kansas City let a 3-1 lead get away in the fifth when Nick Swisher hit a two-run homer but the Royals responded to win for the second time in eight games. Brayan Pena had RBI singles in the first and fourth innings for the Royals. Jamey Wright (3-5) picked up the win with two innings of scoreless relief.
Ramon Santiago singled in the go-ahead run in the second inning Wednesday and Detroit took a giant step toward a division crown by downing Minnesota 7-2. The Tigers moved three games in front of the Twins with four games to play and can clinch the American League Central pennant on Thursday with another victory over Minnesota.
Magglio Ordonez and Brandon Inge each had two RBI Tuesday when the Detroit Tigers beat Minnesota 6-5 to split a doubleheader. Minnesota won the first game 3-2 to close to within one game of Detroit in the American League Central race.
Kendry Morales had three hits and three RBI Sunday, leading the Los Angeles Angels to a 7-4 win over the Oakland Athletics. Morales' 32nd homer of the season, a two-run blast, gave Los Angeles a 4-0 lead with two outs in the bottom of the third. Miguel Cabrera drove in four runs on four hits Saturday as Detroit defeated the Chicago White Sox 12-5. The Tigers sent the minimum 12 men to the plate over the first four innings and entered the fifth trailing 5-0 before their bats came alive. Cabrera, who put the Tigers on the board with a solo shot to left to open the fifth, reached 100 RBIs for the sixth straight season. Curtis Granderson added three RBI on three hits, one of them a triple, and scored twice.
Brett Anderson limited the Rangers to three runs and six hits in 5 2/3 innings Thursday, leading Oakland's 12-3 rout of Texas. Anderson (11-10) did not walk a batter and fanned six in 90 pitches.

Hank Blalock drove in four runs Wednesday, two of them with a fourth-inning homer, and Texas overcame the loss of a four-run lead to defeat Oakland 9-8. The Rangers won for only the third time in 10 games and inched within 6 1/2 games of the division-leading Los Angeles Angels in the American League West.
Trevor Cahill held Texas to one run and led the Oakland Athletics to a 9-1 victory over the Rangers Tuesday. Cahill (10-12) limited the Rangers to six hits in 5 2/3 innings and knocked them down to seven games in back of Boston in the American League wild-card hunt.
