Police in Miami said someone dumped a 6-foot-long nurse shark, a protected species, in the middle of a road. Authorities said they first received a call about the shark in the city's Overtown neighborhood at about 9 p.m. Tuesday, but witnesses said it had been in the middle of the road since at least 7 p.m., The Miami Herald reported Wednesday. The scholarship award was established in 1997 by Gloria and Jack Tuckfield to honor the memory of their daughter Jacki, who was a devoted member of the Church by the Sea.
