The U.S. government announced on Thursday it has decided to add 26,000 acres to the National Park Service's Petrified Forest National Park.
Petrified Forest National Park, about 100 miles east of Flagstaff off I-40, is centered around what is believed to be the world's largest concentrations of petrified wood, dating from some 225 million years ago.
Petrified Forest National Park is located in the state of Arizona in the United States. The park holds 221,552 acres of land, of which 50,260 acres are comprised of a designated wilderness. The area was once inhabited by Native American tribes including the basket maker and pueblo peoples.
