New home sales in the United States rose in April compared to March, but remain far below the rate of sales a year ago, U.S. Commerce Department said. Sales of new single-family homes increased 0.3 percent in the month to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 352,000.

U.S. retail sales for food and services declined in February but far less than economists forecast, the U.S. Census Bureau reported Wednesday. Advanced figures of sales for food services and retail dropped 0.1 percent in the month, coming in at $346.8 billion, the report said.
