California Academy Scientists Added 140 New Species To List In 2011

The California Academy of Sciences said on Wednesday that its researchers added 140 new species in 2011, including 72 arthropods, 31 sea slugs, 13 fishes, 11 plants, nine sponges, three corals, and one reptile.

The University of Florida, keeper of the world’s shark attack records, is also now overseeing a national records collection for another toothy marine predator: the sawfish.
