Chile is beginning to dig out from a massive 8.2 magnitude earthquake that struck the region at 8:46 p.m. local time Tuesday evening about 52 miles northwest of the mining town of Iquique, according to the USGS.
A magnitude 7.3 earthquake struck off the coast at 5:18 p.m. local time Friday evening triggering a small 3-foot-high tsunami that swept against the Japanese mainland nearly 45 minutes later.
