The Exmoor Pony is native to the British Isles and fossils have been found in and around Exmoor dating back some 50,000 years. Some residence claim the Exmoor Pony has been there since the Ice Age. DNA to confirm this has not been supported, however, a close match to primitive wild horses has been determined.
