Jun. 16--Adobe Systems today reported strong results for its second quarter, with $886.9 million in revenue, up 19 percent from the same period last year, and $214.9 million in net income, or an increase of 40 percent over the second quarter of 2007.

Adobe Systems Inc is offering a new service that seeks to challenge Microsoft, Google and other companies who provide online document sharing services. Adobe’s service, a free online collaboration suite that allows people to create, share and store documents online, as well as hold web conferences to discuss changes, will compete with Google Apps and Microsoft Office Live Workspace.

Microsoft Corp. said on Monday that the next version of its Office program will be able to save documents in the PDF format, a popular method of sharing documents between different computers and software programs.
