The headcount reductions will be achieved through severance programs, attrition and further consolidations, and outsourcing of some business functions, the company's...

By Lewis Griswold, The Fresno Bee, Calif. Aug. 6--The nation's drug czar chopped down marijuana plants growing deep inside the Sequoia National Forest in Tulare County on Tuesday. John Walters, who holds the Cabinet-level position as director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, came to California to bring attention to a new locally coordinated, but partly federally funded, marijuana eradication program to raid marijuana gardens planted on public lands by Mexican...

By Rick Bentley, The Fresno Bee, Calif. Aug. 4--BURBANK -- As soon as Yvonne Strahovski, the actress who plays Sarah Walker on the NBC series "Chuck," walks onto the show's set on the Warner Bros. lot, every eye is focused on her left wrist. Strahovski is sporting a huge bandage. It covers most of her hand, her wrist and part of her forearm. Production on the second season of the spy series has been at full tilt. By Paula Lloyd, The Fresno Bee, Calif. Aug. 1--SQUAW VALLEY -- About 150 foothill residents jammed the Squaw Valley library to overflowing Thursday night for a sometimes angry town hall meeting with Pacific Gas & Electric officials over a proposed route for a high-voltage power line. PG&E is studying routes to bring more power from the Bakersfield area to growing numbers of customers in Fresno and Madera counties. One route would string the 500-kilovolt transmission line through...

By Rick Bentley, The Fresno Bee, Calif. Aug. 1--The third offering in the "Mummy" series, "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor," is the kind of fast-moving, mummy-butt-kicking action that is so much fun to watch in the summer. It's light entertainment. It just could have been better. The action takes place in 1946. Rick O'Connell (Brendan Fraser) and his wife, Evelyn, have settled into a life of stuffy retirement. The role of Rick's spunky better half has been taken over by Maria...

Pamela Anderson's new reality show, "Pam: Girl on the Loose," launches Sunday on the E! Entertainment cable channel. There's only one question: Why the heck did it take this long? There are few other celebrities who have risen to such spectacular heights for so little reason. Anderson is the kind of celebrity that reality television loves. And yet it has taken this long for Anderson to finally join the ranks of Kim Kardashian, Denise Richards, Hulk Hogan and Farrah Fawcett. Finally...
