Dark energy -- a mysterious force that causes matter to accelerate away from other matter -- is a case in point. It fuels the expansion of our universe, but it's an oddly small force. But if it were bigger and caused matter to fly apart any faster, you would not be here to read these words.

Annalen der Physik (Annals of Physics) is a peer-reviewed physics journal established in 1799, and is one of the oldest journals still in publication today. The journal is the successor of the Journal der Physik first published in 1790. The journal has been published under a variety of names throughout its history.  The journal was published only in German until the 1950s, when it began publishing both in German and English. He was the longest-living member of Werner Heisenberg's research team which investigated nuclear studies in Germany during World War II. Some argue whether he and the team willingly engaged in the development of a nuclear bomb for Germany, or if its failure was intentional because they did not want the Nazi regime to have nuclear weapons. Weizäcker was born in Kiel,...

Born in Copenhagen, Denmark to Christian Bohr and Ellen Adler, Bohr got his doctorate at Copenhagen University in 1911. He then studied under Ernest Rutherford in Manchester, England. Based on Rutherford's theories, Bohr published his Bohr model about atom structure in 1913, introducing the theory of electrons...
