Today we pay 15 percent more for cheese, 16 percent more for bread and 23 percent more for eggs than we did last year. Why? More demand for meat in industrializing countries, competition for acreage with ethanol-producing plants and higher costs for petroleum fertilizers in our industrial crops. And here in Utah...

'Callithump' is a back-formation of 'callithumpian,' a 'fanciful formation' according to the Oxford English Dictionary. However, the English Dialect Dictionary, says 'Gallithumpians' is a Dorset and Devon word from the 1790s that refers to 'a society of radical social reformers' or 'noisy disturbers of elections and meetings.'
