Scientists on Wednesday unveiled 11 skeletons of prehistoric crocodiles and said their discovery suggests that an ancient land bridge once linked South America to Indo-Pakistan.
The discovery of a nearly intact fossil of a prehistoric crocodile is teaching scientists what the world was like before the continents were separated by oceans, a Brazilian paleontologist said.
A 200-million-year-old dinosaur was unveiled by Brazilian paleontologists as the first of its kind ever discovered. Unaysaurus tolentinoi, or black water dinosaur, was found in 1998 near the city of Santa Maria, in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul.
Unaysaurus, meaning "black water lizard," is a genus of sauropodomorph dinosaur from the Carnian to Norian ages of the Late Triassic Period (225 to 200 million years ago). It was discovered in southern Brazil, which at that time was connected to northwest Africa. During the reign of Unaysaurus, the world was united as the supercontinent Pangaea, which was just starting to break up into the Laurasia and Gondwana continents.
