BEIJING - Eighty-four Siberian tigers, among the world's rarest animals, have been born since March at a northeastern China breeding center, an official said Sunday. Liu Dan, an official with the Hengdaohezi Feline Breeding Center in the suburbs of Harbin, capital of Heilongjiang province, was quoted by Xinhua News Agency as saying the cubs were doing well. The Toyger is a cross between a striped domestic shorthaired cat and a standard Bengal tabby. Breeding began in the 1980s but only in 2007 was the Toyger allowed into full championship status. The breed was created by Judy Sudgen to inspire people to care about tiger conservation in the wild.
