TOKYO (AP) -- Japan's space agency said Wednesday it plans to launch a satellite carrying X-ray telescopes into Earth's orbit as early as next month to study black holes and far-flung galaxies. The launch of the Astro-EII satellite was planned between June 26 and July 15 but could be delayed until August, said the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, or JAXA, in a statement on its Web site. Post Weather Report From August 2, 2012
2012-08-03 11:43:48

Four major events occurred yesterday, the first being the formation of Tropical Storm Ernesto, which is now located just east of the Windward Islands with winds near 45 knots. The second was the heat in the Southern Plains as many places saw temps over 100F with heat index values near 105-110 for the region. The heat persisted in Eastern Texas and into Louisiana and northward into Arkansas as some places felt temps hit the100’s with...

The weather associated with this feature is impressive. If you travel about 30 miles east of the slopes you will find vast plains, however these plains could be classified as desert. The reason is that this region is part of the rain shadow of the hills meaning most of the moisture is stuck west in the...

The Rocky mountains with their rugged terrain and high elevation can really become a large impact on weather patterns in the United States. First, the Rockies provide the Central Plains with the cold air aloft that is needed in the formation of severe weather to include tornadoes. Secondly, the Rocky mountains act as a barrier for any large weather system that moves onshore along the Pacific...
