Better Diagnostics Could Reduce Risky Surgery

Neurologist Dr. David Spence of The University of Western Ontario’s Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry has shown that using 3-D ultrasound to identify three or more ulcers in the carotid arteries is an effective way to pinpoint the small percentage of patients with asymptomatic carotid stenosis who could benefit from stenting or surgery to prevent a stroke.
